Syria Awaits Key Announcement on SDF Integration

Syrian Information Minister Hamza al-Mustafa told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that Syrian authorities are awaiting an important announcement Sunday evening regarding the ongoing consultations on a ceasefire agreement and the full integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syrian state institutions. In the same context, Kurdish media reported that the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazlum Abdi, traveled to the Syrian capital Damascus to meet with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa. Furthermore, Syrian TV cited a high-ranking Syrian official stating that Sharaa had formally invited the SDF commander to a meeting with the American envoy as part of efforts to contain escalation and launch a political and security dialogue track. The Syrian Presidency confirmed that Sharaa received the American envoy Tom Brake in Damascus, accompanied by Foreign Minister Asad al-Shibani, affirming that the meeting addressed Syrian unity and sovereignty over all its territories, the importance of dialogue at the current stage, continued coordination in combating terrorism, exploring ways to enhance economic cooperation between Syria and the United States, and the latest regional developments. This development comes a day after violent clashes erupted between SDF forces and the Syrian army in the eastern countryside of Aleppo and southern Raqqa, resulting in an unspecified number of casualties and the Syrian forces taking control of several areas, including oil and gas fields in Deir ez-Zor province.
