Syrian Authorities Thwart Terrorist Plot in Damascus

The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced today that the Counter-Terrorism Directorate, in cooperation with the Internal Security Command in the Damascus countryside, thwarted a sabotage plot targeting the capital's security. The ministry stated in a statement: "The operation was the result of meticulous security monitoring of suspicious movements within the capital, where specialized units tracked a woman from a cell during her attempt to carry out a sabotage act by planting an explosive device near the home of a religious figure in the vicinity of the Maronite Church in Bab Tuma area." It added: "Thanks to proactive security efforts, rapid execution, and high readiness, the units managed to neutralize the threat and dismantle the device before it exploded, without any injuries or damages, and arrested all members of the cell, totaling five individuals." The ministry indicated that preliminary investigations revealed the cell's affiliation with Hezbollah and its members receiving specialized military training abroad, which included skills in planting explosive devices. It clarified that investigations are ongoing to fully uncover the details of the case and the linked parties, paving the way for their referral to the relevant judiciary."
