Abbas Meets Syrian President in Historic Visit

The president of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Mahmoud Abbas, met in Damascus with his Syrian interim counterpart, Ahmed al Sharaa. This was Abbas's first visit to Syria since the fall of the regime. The PNA, which has control over reduced parts of the occupied West Bank, maintains relations with different regional actors in search of political and diplomatic support.

During the meeting, Abbas and Al Sharaa discussed topics of common interest, such as the situation in the region and efforts to find a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East, as well as their support for a negotiated solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people.

Abbas expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome received in Syria and highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between both peoples.
