Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdul Qader Jibrail, stated on Thursday that the Syrian economy is growing much faster than World Bank estimates. This is attributed to the influx of returning residents following the end of the civil war. He also announced the launch of a new currency in eight paper denominations, removing two zeros from it in an attempt to restore confidence in the Syrian pound.
"The Syrian economy is growing at a faster pace than predicted by the World Bank," Jibrail was quoted as saying by SANA news agency.
