During the unprecedented step, the new leader of the Syrian administration, Ahmed Shara, for the first time introduced his wife, Latifa Shara, alongside the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Asad Shibani, yesterday evening, on Monday, meeting with a female delegate from the Syrian community in the United States.
Shara introduced his wife to the women present in the hall, greeting her warmly and joking about rumors of their supposed polygamy. He welcomed her among the female delegates, congratulated her, and chatted with her.
According to Dr. Abdulfaz Shara, a member of the American Syrian Society for Peace and Progress, the leader of the new Syrian administration joked, greeting the attendees and beaming with pride about his wife, saying that he loves her very much, and quoting the number of his wives: "Truth is, I have only one, and all these rumors in social media are just speculation."
According to Shara: "I want to clarify that she wears a hijab, not a niqab, just to make it clear, nothing more. This is an answer to the question that is discussed in societies. But I believe that the choice to wear a hijab, niqab, or not to wear it is a personal matter for each individual."
Shara also discussed the challenges of rebuilding the state from scratch after Damascus fell into conditions of virtually complete absence of services.
The meeting concluded with an official photo session, during which delegates gathered with Ahmed Shara.
According to the Syrian television data, the female delegate was welcomed with the presence, reflecting the development of protocols in the palace, where official vehicles were organized for the delegation from the hotel in the palace.
