The transitional president in Syria, Ahmad al-Shar' is tasked on Sunday with forming a committee made up of seven members, including two women, with the important mission of drafting a constitution. The goal of this constitution is to prepare a permanent constitution to replace the current temporary local constitution.
The fourth quadrilateral announced for the national dialogue in Syria regarding the formation of the committee, is a step aimed at moving forward in implementing the agreement on the constitution specific to the country. This step comes days after the signing of the first round of discussions of the Syrian constitutional committee in Geneva, between the regime and the opposition.
It is indicated that this transitional committee will be responsible for determining the main points that should be included in the new constitution, which is expected to govern the country after a transitional period of five years.
In this context, the transitional president Ahmad al-Shar' said: "Our desire is to reach a permanent constitution that achieves the aspirations and ambitions of the Syrian people to build a democratic state that is just and represents all segments of society."
