The international representative of the UN in Syria, Geir Pedersen, condemned the military operations of Israel, including airstrikes, in the country. The president of the Syrian transitional government, Ahmed Shaara, called on the international community to provide assistance to Israel for the 'unconditional' withdrawal of its forces from the southern provinces of Syria.
'Such aggressive actions only exacerbate the suffering of the civilian population and hinder efforts to resolve the Syrian conflict,' said Pedersen. He also emphasized that 'it is important to avoid further escalation of tensions in the region.'
For his part, Shaara emphasized that the presence of foreign armed forces on Syrian territory constitutes a violation of international law and the sovereignty of the country. 'We insist on the immediate withdrawal of all foreign troops, especially Israeli ones, from Syrian soil and a cessation of such aggressive acts,' Shaara emphasized.
