More than 300 thousand Syrian refugees are returning to their country with the end of Bashar al-Assad's rule in early December 2024.
Most of the returning refugees came back from neighboring countries where they sought asylum from the conflict that has persisted in Syria for many years. Many returned to their native villages and towns, although some were forced to return to temporary places of residence due to destroyed housing.
"The return of refugees is a positive signal about the gradual restoration of the country after many years of conflict. We hope that this process will continue and more people will be able to return home," said a representative of the local authorities.
However, ongoing instability in certain regions of the country means that some refugees have to face new challenges and difficulties in terms of resettlement. Authorities and international organizations are offering support and assistance to those returning to facilitate their integration and restoration process.
