Syria's Transitional President Vows to Combat Assad Loyalists

The President of Syria during the transitional period, Ahmed Shara, announced the continuation of "islands" of the fallen regime of President Bashar Al-Assad in connection with the clashes that occurred in the provinces of Latakia and Tartus on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. In these regions, support for Assad was strong among the Alawites, and over the past three months, they have become witnesses to the resurgence of the sectarian militia.

Shara stated in his address, which was disseminated by the Syrian news agency "SANA": "We will continue to follow the remnants of the fallen regime, who wish to continue their history of brutality and tyranny, and those among them who committed crimes against the people and who strive to undermine public order, we will present them before a fair court." And he added: "We will continue to control weapons in the hands of the state, leaving not a single illegal weapon in Syria, and anyone who crosses the border in relation to the peaceful population and begins to act harshly against the people will receive strict instructions."

Shara stated: "Our people on the coast in areas of clashes - part of our responsibility, and we are obliged to protect them and save them from the wicked remnants of the fallen regime, and regardless of our heritage, the state will remain a guarantor of public safety and will not allow it to be violated in any way." Shara called on "all forces that have joined the areas of clashes to fully subordinate themselves to military and security leadership there and immediately free zones for stabilizing violations so that military and security forces can continue their work at full capacity." And he confirmed that "Syria is moving forward and will not take a step back."
