China has called the incident a "tragic setback" for humanity on the western Syrian border after confrontations resulted in the deaths of more than a thousand people.
"China calls on all parties to exercise restraint, as well as to cease hostilities and military actions," noted the Chinese government.
According to data from the International Committee of the Red Cross, "more than a thousand people have died and thousands have been forced to leave their homes" as a result of the escalation of violence in the region.
"This tragedy should find a peaceful solution through dialogue and negotiations," emphasized the Chinese MID.
