The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced today the completion of its military operation in the coastal region, stating that security has been restored following recent clashes with remnants of the old regime. The ministry spokesperson, Hassan Abdel Ghani, noted in a statement that all "strategic objectives" have been met and that government forces have neutralized hostile elements, protecting vital areas and key infrastructure.
"Public institutions are now in a position to resume their work and provide essential services, paving the way for life to return to normal and ensuring long-term stability," Abdel Ghani declared while officially announcing the conclusion of the operation. He also highlighted that security agencies will focus on maintaining stability and preventing future threats, according to Xinhua news agency.
The spokesperson mentioned the implementation of new plans to continue combatting remnants of the old regime, dismantle any resurgent criminal networks, and prevent future security threats. According to the ministry, the military operation was launched in response to coordinated attacks against security forces that began on Thursday and extended to various areas of the coast, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,000 people, including civilians.
In another development, interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced the formation of an independent national committee to investigate the recent deadly violence in the coastal region. Al-Sharaa promised to bring the responsible parties to justice and ensure justice for all affected individuals.
