Syrian FM: Damascus seeks balanced relations with all countries

Syrian Foreign Minister Asad al-Shibani, in a speech delivered at the Manama Dialogue forum in Bahrain on Sunday, stated that Damascus does not want to be a center of polarization, adding that it seeks balanced relations with all countries and a very strong partnership with America.

He also pointed out that Syria seeks to maintain equal distance from all nations and to establish its relations on the principle of cooperation and openness.

Al-Shibani said, as reported by the Syrian News Agency: "We extend our hand to allies and friends in the region for the benefit of all."

He considered that "what Israel does undermines the unique new Syrian experience," adding, "We are trying to deal with Israeli provocations with diplomacy."

The Syrian government reiterated that it is not seeking problems with neighboring or Western countries.
