Doha, AFP — Syria's transitional president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, stated that Israel's efforts to establish a buffer zone in southern Syria would put the country in a «dangerous position». Israel continues to carry out military operations in the region, the latest of which resulted in the deaths of 13 people. During a panel discussion at the Doha Forum, Sharaa said: «Syria has insisted on respecting the 1974 agreement, which has successfully stood for over fifty years. This agreement was, in a way, a successful one, enjoying an international consensus and the consensus of the UN Security Council. Meddling with this agreement and seeking other alternatives, such as a buffer zone, I believe, could put us in a dangerous place».
