Syria grants license to preserve Jewish heritage

The Syrian government announced on Wednesday that it has granted a license to an organization focused on preserving Jewish heritage in the country. According to one of its founders, the organization will work on returning properties seized from this community by previous authorities. On Wednesday, Minister of Social Affairs Hind Qabat announced the launch of the 'Syrian Jewish Heritage Organization' — the first organization dedicated to Jewish heritage to receive a license from the new authorities. Henry Hamra, one of the organization's founders and the son of Yussef Hamra, the country's last rabbi, stated: 'This is a strong message from the Syrian state that we do not distinguish between one religion and another.' She added that 'Syria is helping all Syrians, of all religions and sects, who want to build our new country.'
