Syria Publishes Video of Hoda Sharawi's Murder

The Syrian Ministry of Justice published yesterday, Saturday, details of the crime of killing artist Hoda Sharawi in her home in Damascus by her Ugandan maid. The Ministry confirmed that the case is being followed until justice is served, noting that this step came within the framework of ongoing investigations through which judicial authorities seek to fully uncover all details of the crime. The video published by the Ministry on its page on the platform 'X' showed the maid collapsing with a metal tool on the head of the late artist several times while she was in her bed. The Ugandan worker stated that the reason for killing the artist was that the latter had asked her not to approach the refrigerator because the food in it had been poisoned. She added, 'Because she poisoned me, I thought we should die together.' She continued, 'After that, I went to the kitchen and took many medications, I wanted to die, and I poured fuel and took a handkerchief, but I did not die. Then I went to the roof and jumped, but I did not die, and after that, a woman found me and reported me to the police.' The maid spoke that in last November, a misunderstanding occurred between her and Sharawi, who refused to give her salary to send to Uganda, saying, 'She used to mistreat me, not feed me, beat me, and lock me in the bathroom.' Meanwhile, the domestic worker broke down crying and expressed her regret for her act, saying, 'I don't know what to say to the Syrian people, I'm sorry, forgive me,' adding, 'I don't know how I did that.' The maid also indicated that she had been working with Hoda Sharawi since last year, confirming that she lived with her alone. It is worth noting that on January 29 of this year, the artistic community was shocked by the news of the killing of artist Hoda Sharawi, famous for her role as 'Um Zaki' in the series 'Bab Al-Hara'. At that time, Syrian authorities revealed the details of the artist's killing in her home as a result of an assault with a solid object that caused severe bleeding, by her Ugandan domestic worker, who left the scene after the incident before the competent authorities were able to arrest her the same evening.
