In the last three months, around 188 children have been killed or injured in Syria due to landmine explosions and military equipment. This was reported by a children's rights group.
The organization noted that children are facing the risk of explosions in areas that were previously recognized as free from armed conflicts. Vulnerable groups of people, including children and youth, are exposed to dangers from unexploded ordnance, mines, and explosive remnants left after hostilities.
"These terrible figures underscore the importance of urgently removing dangerous remnants of war from populated areas, where they threaten the lives of civilians, including children," the organization emphasized.
Analysts call for a large-scale operation to demining, in order to protect the civilian population from new tragedies.
