The President of Syria in the transitional period, Ahmed Shara, stated on Monday that the country requires four or five years to conduct elections. This statement was made less than a week after his appointment as the president of the country in the transitional period. "We need at least two years to set the necessary rules and regulations for organizing free and fair elections, and then we will have an electoral period that lasts for another two years," Shara said in an interview. He noted that "things will gradually return to normal after years of wars and devastation" and expressed hope for progress in the organization of elections.
