The President of Syria Bashar al-Assad announced that he met with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas in Damascus on Friday. This is the first visit by the President of Palestine to the capital of Syria in at least 16 years.
Abbas and al-Assad held talks dedicated to the regional peace process and the latest political events in the region. The leaders also discussed the current situation in Palestine and the prospects for international efforts to resolve the conflict with Israel.
After the meeting of the leaders of the two countries, it was officially stated that they confirmed the necessity of strengthening interactions between Syria and Palestine at all levels.
