UNICEF Appoints First Ambassador in Syria

UNICEF in Syria has appointed artist Qais Sheikh Najib as its first-ever ambassador in the country. His mission is to advocate for children's rights to health, education, protection, equality, and to influence public policies and ensure support for child-focused programs. This announcement was made at a press conference in Damascus.

UNICEF Representative in Syria, Zainab Adam, stated that the health and education systems in Syria face significant challenges, emphasizing that Qais Sheikh Najib's role will be pivotal in supporting children and contributing to policy changes related to children's rights.

She added that the artist will participate in campaigns aimed at shifting perceptions, attitudes, and policies, as well as raising awareness about UNICEF's work and mobilizing resources for children in Syria.

In turn, the Syrian artist stated: "I am proud to be a UNICEF ambassador. This is not just a title, but a covenant and a moral imperative and a call to action. For 14 years, children have suffered, many have lost their path in life, and some have dropped out of school, even though every child has the right to education, health, and safe spaces to play and grow. I pledge to the children of my country that I will be unwaveringly committed to working for their sake."
