According to Arab media, the President of Syria, Ahmed Shara, stated today that the current events in the country constitute "expected challenges" in the context of ongoing clashes between the new Syrian authorities and armed militants from the Alawite community, to which the overthrown President Bashar al-Assad belonged, on the borders of the country. Shara called for national unity during his speech on video, which was transmitted by Arab media, filmed in one of the mosques in Damascus. "The current events are challenges, but I hope the nation proves to be stronger," Shara emphasized.
